Facebook is another success story of the internet. Great idea. Great execution. A perfect storm. Now Facebook is the most visited site on the net (surpassing Google), and it's changing people's lifestyles - from entertaining those who want to sit in front of the PC and play games, to connecting to people half a world away (remember, the internet is global), to reconnecting with an old flame from school, there's something for everybody. But beware. What is posted to Facebook, stays in Facebook. In other words, it has a memory, and it is nearly impossible to remove.

Twitter
To Tweet or not to Tweet ... that is the question. 140 characters. How much can you say in such a short burst. Enter "tiny URL". With a tiny link, most Tweeters are now posting short titles, followed by a short URL which will direct the reader to a "larger" article. 140 characters per day is manageble for quite a few followers. A complete story is not. It's up to each reader to decide how much information to digest. And as always, you must judge the quality of the content, and choose your followers based on their content.

Blog
Everyone is blogging. Even my cat has a blog. Not really, but you get the idea. My issue is that not everyone has a story to tell that's worth reading. And the people who should be blogging are too busy to do so. However, you can find lists of reliable bloggers that will help you select a few to read. The bigger challenge is to figure out which blogs are worth reading, and which produce mostly noise. Beware of blogs where anyone can post. Some are created to serve as link farms, and the content is blatantly forced.

Linked In
In my opinion, every medium of social media is a piece of the puzzle. Some mediums "sing" better to some people than others. It's all about 'you' and what works best for 'you'. Linked In, in my opinion, is an outstanding resource to network. It's a great way to network 2 and 3 degrees from your connections. It's part of the 'we're all interconnected'. How many times have you seen that your new connection was connected to someone you know, but didn't know they shared a relationship? And how can you use that to your advantage?
